About The Backyard Box
The Backyard Box offers local, organic produce which supports Canterbury growers. Here in Christchurch its roots go back over 30 years, to when the first local co-op started, later becoming the Do More Good social enterprise.
This new initiative continues the amazing journey of City Produce 2.0 that became Ooooby Christchurch, and is now The Backyard Box. Whew! That's a lot of change, but the mission remains the same - to connect you, the customer, with the best local, organic produce available.
Our customers - both old and new, can expect the same high standard in our weekly boxes. The Backyard box exists to strengthen local communities, local growers and to delight Canterbury with the best artisan fare.
Fair prices for farmers and artisan food producers is vital
We pay our suppliers at least 50% of the retail value for any products we buy in, and when dealing with wholesalers, we check to make sure they pay fair prices to their growers.
The benefits of buying local
Local food supports local economies. Food grown in the local community supports local jobs and encourages variety in our diets. It also requires less transportation, so it's fresher and has a smaller environmental footprint.
I love how easy it is to shop local with The Backyard Box. It feels good knowing that I'm supporting Canterbury growers, and I love that I can get all my pantry staples like eggs and milk in my box too.
